Deciding what to do on the biggest night of the year is tricky enough at the best of times, but with #Hull2017 just around the corner the pressure is really on to bring in our year as City of Culture with a great celebration. That’s why we’ve rounded up our top 10 events happening in and around the city, so all you need to do is round up your friends and pick one!
There’s a little something for everyone – from live music to fire parades and club nights to family-friendly theater. So if you’re going to be in Hull to see in 2017, have a browse and let us know where you’re heading!
For live music lovers
Looking for some brilliant bands to accompany your celebrations? Well who needs Jools Holland when Fruit is hosting some of the best local talent out there? This year’s line up includes The Hillbilly Troup, The Hubbards, No Nothings and Jack Conman.
If DJ events were like tapas restaurants!
10 of the most talented local DJs each playing a bite-sized 20 minute set means there’s no time for musical fillers at this one – just the funnest tunes to get your feet moving.
A celebration of Viking heritage with added spark
Okay so not strictly in Hull, but if you’re willing to travel a bit further out of town for some fiery excitement then this Viking themed parade is great fun for family and friends. Featuring the ‘Flamborough Fireballs’, Torches, Battle of Flamborough led by King Canute and even a Viking Longship!
Glow sticks at the ready
The Welly club will be getting out the lasers and strobe lights for a 90s style rave up. Fancy dress is encouraged so we recommend a splash of UV paint!
For those that are feeling flush
If you like to enjoy your New Year’s Eve celebrations with a flutter, 5 courses and to the tune of ‘Sex Bomb’, then the casino may just be the place for you. Time to pick out your James Bond tuxedo.
Chart, dance, RnB and more with a ‘canny’ Reality Star
Geordie Shore legend and Celebrity Big Brother winner Scotty T makes an appearance at The Sugar Mill’s end of year party. Useful phrases to know for the evening include ‘why aye man’ and ‘pet’.
The finest funk & soul shindig in the City of Culture
Hull favourites Young Jack will be performing live with The Onion Club DeeJays, Mr D & Beat Robinson, providing the soundtrack to the rest of the evening.
Club floor-fillers from a legendary record label
Anybody who has ever owned a compilation made by Ministry of Sound are bound to enjoy Valbon’s New Year’s Eve offering. Plus if you’re feeling like an A-lister, you can even book yourself a VIP booth!
Ideal fun for families
If you’re not quite ready to give up the Christmas spirit and haven’t had chance to see this magical adventure of treasure and pirates, you can catch it at Hull Truck theater until 7 January.
The ideal finish to your night down the Avenues
Piper will be adding a touch of the spectacular to their popular Saturday club night for New Year’s Eve with an aerial hoop dancer and confetti cannons. But as fun as it looks, just be sure to leave the hoop to the professional!
