On Monday 03 July the University of Hull’s original fitness suite reached the end of an era, locking its doors for the final time to make way for a new journey!

The new fitness suite, now made up of brand new state of the art equipment opened its doors for the very first time this week, to be followed by the development of a dedicated strength and conditioning facility, due to open in the next 18 months. Plus the continued development of state of the art class studios and an even bigger gym!

With over 65 stations, the redeveloped fitness space includes:

  • Lifting platforms
  • Increased number of racks
  • Heavier dumbbells
  • State of the art functional training rig
  • Power mills
  • Sparc trainers
  • More cardiovascular machines
  • And much more!

The Sports and Fitness team would like to thank all customers for your continued support and look forward to the future of fitness here at The University of Hull. Plus it would be fantastic to see any pictures of you at the gym! Whether it’s a trip down memory lane or your first go in the new space, get in touch over on Facebook.

It really isn’t long now until the start of the Phase 2 works here at the Sports & Fitness Centre, which will see the building of a world-class sports facility here on Campus. Henry Boot Construction will be building the project and we are pleased to be able to share with you an outline of key dates:-

Sports Centre Access Map

Across the road at the brand new 3G Rugby Pitch the contractors have continued to install the carpet in-between rain showers. Fencing crews are now on-site to complete the hand rails and install a small kick board. Pitch flag poles and boot brushes are also now in place.

The planned handover date is 18 July 2017 which also coincides with the planned handover of our brand new Sports Pavilion. Members of staff from the Sports Centre will be receiving their training on all of the new equipment and facilities in the new Pavilion once it
has been formally handed to the University on 18 July.

Rugby Pitch

Regular sports pitch-users may have already noticed that the existing netball/tennis courts have also been refurbished. The surfaces have to be left now for a period of 14 days, after which the courts can be marked up for use. All-in-all July is proving to be a very busy and exciting time for sport at the University of Hull! We will continue to keep you all updated with developments, as and when they occur but in the meantime if you have any questions you can of course contact Steve Curtis, Partnerships & Project Manager (Sport) by email.
