We were extremely pleased to see the rugby pitch ground works recommence last Monday. Approximately one-third of the pitch now has the lateral drains installed and connected. However, the pitch contractors had some difficulties using the dumper and tractor to install the drains due to the hard clay on the ground (see photo below) and unfortunately rain showers overnight then waterlogged the pitch so work had to stop again temporarily.
The contractors are regularly monitoring the weather forecast and on Monday next week when they will:-
- Continue with drainage/formation, hopefully have first key stage prepared and ready for Labosport to inspect midweek.
- Commence with stone infill later part of week
As well as the temporary delay some security fencing was damaged last weekend. The damaged fencing has been replaced and the contractors have installed additional construction notice boards to highlight the construction site.
Meanwhile, also on site, the brickwork on the Pavilion is continuing. Scaffolding has now been erected to take the building higher. As a result of the changes on-site, pedestrian access to both of the 3G pitches and the tarmac multi-use games area has now changed (as per drawing below). These access arrangements will be in place until approximately June 2017.
Please can all users take care when entering and exiting the facilities and if there are any matters of concern, please report them to the staff at the Sport & Fitness Centre Reception. We will continue to keep everyone informed about progress and also of any changes to access.
