Tomorrow (Saturday 21 April) is Record Store Day, one of our favourite days of the year. To celebrate it here’s a few of the amazing record shops in Hull.
Literally just down the road from the University at 30 Cottingham Road is the wonderful GO Records. Boasting a vast selection of new and second hand records (and CDs, but we’re not talking about those right?) from the 50s right up to the present there’s likely to be something to tickle your fancy there.
If you’re on your way into town then you could do a lot worse than stop into Disc Discovery on Spring Bank. There’s an absolute ton of records to choose from, not to mention a very interesting memorabilia section to browse through.
Once you’re in town, if you head over to the indoor market you’ll find Spin-It Records, who will bedazzle you once again with a wide range of second hand records.
Type Slowly / Warren Records
If your tastes are a little more modern (and, dare we say it, alternative) then you really need to head down to Type Slowly / Warren Records. Based opposite Queen’s Gardens and the BBC building right in the middle of town it stocks tons of awesome indie and punk records from across the globe not to mention the very best of Hull’s local artists. There’s also a great selection of zines and books. Your wallet may not thank you but your ears definitely will.
