Our good friends at Hull University Union have noticed recently that there are lots of dodgy freshers events appearing over on Facebook. These unofficial groups and pages are sometimes business pages designed to get your data from Facebook for marketing purposes, others are groups which completely change the event once people have joined / like to make it look much more popular than it actually is. There are even some that try to get you to pay money or buy a ticket, and we really don’t want you to be buying tickets to an event that doesn’t exist!

So how do you know if it’s real? Here are some clues from HUU…

  • All official Hull University Union events are branded as ‘WelcomeFest’ – not Freshers.
  • The events will have Hull University Unions’ official logo on them.
  • You can only purchase tickets through the Hull University Union website.
  • If it’s a club night (not at Asylum) – make sure you buy through the official ticket sellers.

WelcomeFest is on the 15th – 29th September 2018 with fairs, Give-It-a-Go events, nightclub events in Asylum and loads more going on around campus. Wristbands are not yet on sale, but keep updated on our social channels for when you can bag one.
You can join the official WelcomeFest facebook page here.
