So apparently Radio 1’s Big Weekend is in Middlesborough this year. That’s lovely, and we’re sure it’ll be great but really, there’s no need to leave Hull to get your fill of music and other great stuff this summer.

Obviously the big music event of the year is, as always, Humber Street Sesh, which takes place around (you guessed it!) Humber Street on the 2nd and 3rd of August. As always it will focus on the vast reserve of local talent that we’re lucky enough to have in Hull, and tickets are on sale now.

If that seems too far away then don’t forget that the Sesh (where it all started) is on every Tuesday night at the Polar Bear pub on Spring Bank, which has just been refurbished.

If it’s something a little more highbrow you’re after then the Freedom Festival at the end of August should be just what you’re after. It’ll feature music, dance, theatre, art and a whole lot more, and best of all it’s completely free!

If you like food then you’ll be excited to hear that Hull Street Food Nights in Trinity Square are starting again soon – from Thursday April 4th they’ll take place on the first Thursday of every month between 4pm and 9pm with a DJ, live band, family entertainment… Oh, and over 30 stalls of the most delicious street food the area has to offer. And entry is free too!

Of course there’s tons more going on in Hull this summer and beyond, and we’ll be sure to update you as the year goes by… And don’t forget to let us know if there’s anything you think we should be featuring!
