When Canham Turner (previously Staff House) reopens next month, one of the biggest changes you’ll notice is a brand new food hall. Alongside much loved favourites like fish and chips, there’ll be different cuisines from around the world, a bakery, extended salad bar, soup station, build your own breakfast area and grab and go sandwiches. Basically, choosing what to have for lunch is about to get a whole lot more difficult!
But whilst the counters are in place, the menus have been planned and there’s a shiny new kitchen ready to whip up some tasty dishes, our catering team haven’t yet chosen a name for it. Can you help?
Things to bear in mind
The building has been renamed after alumna Barbara Canham Turner who gifted the University £3.5 million in her will. This is the first building on campus to be named after a woman.
Barbara gained a First in English in 1942 and went on to pursue a highly successful career at the British Council. Her love of Victorian literature has inspired the University to name the conference and meeting rooms after Victorian authors (so there will be the Brontë suite, the Austen room etc).
The catering team have already been out on campus asking students and staff what they think and there seems to be a few firm favourites –
- The Junction
- The Pantry
- The Kitchen
