Tis’ the season to frantically run around the shops stressing out about finding the perfect gifts for your family and friends! But this Christmas why not forget the big chains and pick up some unique and meaningful presents from small, independent shops? Hull has loads of them!
Tessies, Newland Avenue
Funky jewellery, gorgeous handbags and scarfs…this place is ideal for picking up a special something for the fashionista in your life. And whilst you’re there it would be rude not to treat yourself too!
Woods Vintage Home Interiors, Newland Avenue
You can spend ages rooting around in this adorable little shop. You’ll find everything from fairy lights and scented candles to handmade soaps and baskets for making your own hampers.
Cocoa Chocolatier & Bakery, Humber Street
Hull’s very own answer to Willy Wonka, treat your loved ones (and yourself!) to delicious handmade chocolates, giant chocolate bars, cakes and gooey brownies.
The Moon on a Stick, Newland Avenue
Slightly tricky to find as it’s above another shop on Newland Ave, but head up the stairs and you’ll be greeted with lots of loveliness! At the moment we’re obsessed with their cat purses, inspirational cushions and dinosaur lamps. They do workshops too so you can learn how to make your own gifts.
Glory, Chanterlands Avenue
Packed to the rafters with quirky gift ideas, you’ll find vintage brooches nestled alongside cute teapots and refurbished furniture. We challenge you not to find something you love!
Southwood Garden Centre, Ganton Avenue, Cottingham
Okay, so garden centres aren’t usually the most exciting places to hang out but this one is pretty great. As well as stocking loads of thoughtful (and non garden related) gift ideas, it has a lovely little cafe and you can pay a visit to Santa and his reindeer whilst you’re there.
Poorboy Boutique, Princes Quay
Offering a fabulous range of men’s and women’s clothing, the team here take unloved vintage items and rework them to create incredible and unique garments.
Sugar and Spice Cakes, Hallgate, Cottingham
Who doesn’t like cake? These guys stock loads of sweet treats, plus specialist equipment if you want to have a go and making your own.
