As exam time winds to a close, and the sun is finally showing its face, potential future career plans are probably the last thing on your mind – more likely you’re thinking about long summer days, beer gardens and barbecues. And we can’t say we blame you; we’re thinking much the same thing.
But the eminently sensible folk over in Careers, Entrepreneurship and Study Abroad have a better idea. They think that right now – whilst you’re still here and have a bit of time following your exams – is the perfect time to set aside a little time to think about what you might like to do when your course is over. Over to them…
Thinking about what you are going to do after your studies can be quite daunting – and it can be tempting to put this out of your mind altogether until you reach the end of your course. However, taking steps now can have a big impact on your chances of getting the job you want.
Get involved, connect with employers and get experience. You will develop the skills and experience employers are looking for and it will help shape your ideas about what you want to do in the future.
Whether you have a career in mind, or are entirely open to ideas, book a 30 minute appointment with a professional Careers Adviser. Call 01482 462222 or drop into the Central Hub on the first floor of Student Central.
You should also sign up to our Opportunities platform, powered by Job Teaser. On this site, you can view job vacancies including part-time student jobs, paid internships, volunteering opportunities, including some overseas, and graduate opportunities. You can also view details of the hundreds of events we organise on campus each year and a wealth of online resources to help you decide on your next step and help you on your way to arriving there.
Sounds good to us. We bet they’re thinking about barbecues and beer gardens too though… We’ll be sharing some more posts from Careers over the next few weeks, so keep an eye out.
